Daniel Alexander: Grand Prize Winner

Daniel Alexander, originally from England, obtained a Masters at the Yale School of Music under Ransom Wilson, and is about to complete a DMA in flute performance at the University of Houston, studying with Aralee Dorough. He can soon be heard on a CD of chamber works by Christopher Rouse with the Calder Quartet for imminent release on Koch, and organizes the Cambridge Flute Masterclass in England with Ransom Wilson. He also teaches two undergraduates at the University of Houston, and has performed live on Houston's KUHF radio. A semi-finalist of the New World Symphony, Daniel also won the University of Houston concerto competition in 2008 and will perform Steve Reich's Vermont Counterpoint as part of a group of Yale alumni at the NFA this summer. |
Brittany Foster: 1st Runner-Up

Brittany Foster is currently pursuing a Masters of Music at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, studying with Bradley Garner. She has attended the Sewanee Summer Music Festival and Chautauqua Institute Summer Music Festival. In 2006 she won the Sewanee Summer Music Festival concerto competition and was a finalist in the Chautauqua Institute's Concerto Competition in 2008. In 2007, Ms. Foster was a semi-finalist for the Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition. She is also a three time winner of the Louisiana Flute Society's Young Artist Competition. This summer, Ms. Foster will be competing in the NFA Orchestral Excerpts competition. |
I-Jeng Yeh: 2nd Runner-Up

I-Jeng Yeh, born in Taiwan, has been an active chamber musician and soloist. She was a first prize winner in the open category of the Twelfth Annual Competition in the Performance of Music from Spain and Latin America (2009). She serves in the Camerata Orchestra (Indiana) and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and was principal flute in the IU New Music Ensemble from 2006 to 2008, performing on its tour to the East Coast in 2007. She has played in many masterclasses under the guidance of famous flutists from around the world, such as Robert Aitken, William Bennett, Peter-Lukas Graf, Shigenori Kudo, Maxence Larrieu, Susan Milan, and Emmanuel Pahud. |
