Competitions and Special Projects

The Texas Flute Society hosts three flute competitions each year as a part of its annual Texas Flute Festival. In addition, we sponsor special projects to help provide unique opportunities for our flutists. Here’s a quick overview.

The
Myrna W. Brown
Artist Competition


More Info

  • Open to all flutists. No age limit.
  • Winner invited to appear as a guest artist in the
    Texas Flute Festival the following year.
  • 1st place awarded $1,200 cash prize
  • 2nd place awarded $500 cash prize
  • 3rd place awarded $250 cash prize
  • Must be current members of the
    Texas Flute Society in good standing.

The
Myrna W. Brown
Commission Project


More Info

  • An original work by a burgeoning composer.
  • Commissioned by the Texas Flute Society.
  • Performed in the final round of the Myrna W. Brown Competition.

The
Donna Marie Haire
Young Artist Competition


More Info

  • Open to school-aged flutists
  • Must have not yet graduated high school,
    or have graduated during the year of the competition
  • Must be current members of the
    Texas Flute Society in good standing.
  • 1st place awarded $1000 cash prize
  • 2nd place awarded $500 cash prize

The
Masterclass
Competition


More Info

  • Open to all flutists
  • Generally includes:
    • Junior High Masterclass
    • High School Masterclass
    • College/Adult Masterclass
    • Additional Specialty-Driven Masterclass (e.g. jazz, piccolo, etc.)
  • Must be current members of the
    Texas Flute Society in good standing.
